From 25 January to 24 February 2022, the Luxembourg Science Center hosts an exhibition of the science comic “LUX:plorations Vol. 2 – A Universe of Research”. Visitors have the opportunity to read the comic in different languages, leave their feedback and take a hard copy of the comics with them.
Furthermore, doctoral candidates will offer short science workshops of around 15 minutes related to the topics covered in the LUX:plorations comics (e.g. immune system, brain organoids, fluid dynamics, gut microbiome). The exact dates and topics of the workshops can soon be found on the website of the University of Luxembourg and/or on the social media platforms of the Luxembourg Science Center.
The comics have been developed by 21 doctoral candidates from different fields of research in Luxembourg. They collaborated with Luxembourgish comic artists Pascale Velleine, Valérie Minelli, Ingo Schandeler, Robert Soisson and Marion Dengler to produce eight short stories about different topics in science and research. Snejana Granatkina provided the cover illustrations and portraits of the people involved in LUX:plorations.
The comics have been produced in the context of the DESCOM (Doctoral Education in Science Communication) project, which aims to support interactions between academia and the public by providing different modes of training in science communication. LUX:plorations is supported by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) as well as the Doctoral School in Science and Engineering (DSSE) and the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM).
