ARTIST

Ingo_Schandeler(C)
INGO SCHANDELER

Ingo Schandeler (born 1958) has always had a drawing pen at the ready in any stage of his life. Whether drawing mind maps while listening to a talk, at boring meetings to relax, in school to pin down the most important parts, or at cultural and sports events, in order to create posters, decoration or flyers. As an engineer, computer scientist, educator, politician, mathematician, environmental activist or artist he has always been able to work interdisciplinary. Being an active member of CartoonArt and the ARC artist collective, contributor for various cultural, educational and social projects as well as an author/illustrator of books like Humoristic Luxembourg, his common theme has always been to question everything combined with a dose of sarcasm.

The Future Is Now
Losing Orientation

Why did you participate in LUX:plorations?
“I like the idea of creative common and had done a lot of cartoons and illustrations, a domain similar to comics. Using drawings to illustrate science has always been part of my life, as well as creating cartoon figures to explain things.”

What did you like most about LUX:plorations?
“Working with nice people, although I would have preferred “presentiel” instead of online meetings. The transformation of a story into a script and then into a comic was a process I always wanted to do.”

What was the biggest challenge for you?
“I have always worked alone. Understanding what the aim of the comic was, the essence of the story, the thoughts of the students and the frights of the University was a challenge. And bringing the different drawings together to form pages.”

NICOLE PASCHEK

Nicole Paschek loves to talk about science. During her studies in behavioural and neural biology, she also found her passion for writing and decided to study journalism as well. As a journalist, she realised that scientists sometimes struggle to explain what they do in an understandable way. Improving those skills is the mission of DESCOM, a training programme in science communication for doctoral candidates in Luxembourg. Since 2019, Nicole has been working as Project Manager of DESCOM.
